A third party articulated wagon delivering stone to an asphalt plant overturned whilst tipping into the stock bay. The trailer came to rest on the bay wall, and damaged the dust suppression system.

Emergency services were called and attended the site and had to rescue the driver from the cab.

It was confirmed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and sustained an impact injury to the shoulder due to no restraints.

The vehicle was safely recovered in a controlled area and returned to the haulier.

The image below shows how the vehicle came to rest on the storage bay wall damaging the dust suppression system.

• Review tipping operations on site, in particular for articulated wagons. Including ground conditions, supervision, lighting and driver induction content.
• Ensure all drivers are reminded about wearing seatbelts at all times, including while tipping
• Ensure drivers are challenged if seen to not be following this rule.
• Review site emergency procedures.
• Remind drivers of your company’s tipping rules or refer to rules included in the MPA  Driver’s Handbook – see image below from page 110.
