WHAT HAPPENED
An accident occurred recently which could have been far more serious for the individual when he reached around a guard to move a piece of machinery that was not completely isolated from being able to move.
When the machinery moved in an unexpected fashion his hand got caught and resulted in deep cuts and tendon damage.
It could have been far worse, he could have lost part of his hand/fingers or done more severe damage.

Guards are designed to prevent accidental injury.
If removing a guard for any work, ensure that a risk assessment has taken place and any equipment is subject to isolation and lock off.
Guarding should only be removed when absolutely essential.
