An incident occurred whilst a driver was strapping down a load using corner boards at a lorry park. Whilst attempting to place corner boards, the board unexpectedly fell from the pack and struck the driver on the right ear, causing a laceration.

On closer inspection, debris was discovered on the top of the pack, resulting in the corner board not being able to sit flush, in turn, causing it to fall when the driver attempted to position it.

• Please ensure that all packs are free of debris prior to loading, particularly any top packs.

Actions for Drivers

• STOP if corner boards do not fit as required in the first instance
• ACCESS via use of camera system on vehicle / steps / platforms to establish reason – if any obstruction is noticed, remove if safe to do so, alternatively seek support from the site.
