A common problem has been tackled by Tarmac Northern’s Concrete & Mortar North Area. At plants without admixture dispensing equipment, truckmixer drivers are at increased risk of falling when carrying drums of admixture up the inspection ladders of their vehicles, since they only have one hand with which to grip the ladder.
The solution, currently undergoing trials, is a chassis-mounted admixture pump, powered by the vehicle’s own air system. Working with the Freight Transport Association and the vehicle inspectorate at Swansea, a patent has been applied for this system which may be modified in the future by the inclusion
of a separate air receiver to render the system independent of the vehicle’s air braking circuits.
