Hogan’s asphalt plant in Bangor underwent a significant safety enhancement with the implementation of a self-locking hook system for the skip track. Prior to the enhancement, the process involved raising the skip track using the loading shovel bucket, with a worker manually hooking the chain onto the track. This method posed several hazards, including precarious positioning for the worker and reliance on a single securing point.
The safety concerns were compounded by the discomfort experienced by our asphalt plant operatives during cleaning tasks. Dusty, awkward, and potentially hazardous conditions made this essential daily maintenance task challenging.
