TITLE
Use of Roll Over Protection Devices on Skid-Steer Loaders
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

WHAT HAPPENED

SAFETY ALERT –

It has become apparent that a number of operators of skidsteer machines believe that the use of the isolator bar will protect them from being ejected from the machine in the event of a roll-over.

Unlike similar devices on fairground rides, the isolator bar does not lock to secure the operator in the seat, therefore there is no guarantee that the bar will prevent the operator from being ejected in a roll-over situation.

LEARNING POINTS / ACTIONS TAKEN

The sole purpose of the isolator bar is to provide an electrical connection to allow the machine to operate once the bar is lowered.

SEATBELTS MUST ALWAYS BE WORN WHEN OPERATING SKIDSTEERS as this is the only means of preventing the operator from being ejected in the event of a roll-over.

Please ensure that all your operators are aware of the requirement to wear seatbelts when operating any item of mobile plant - particularly skidsteers - and that managers and supervisors monitor compliance in this regard.
