LEARNING POINTS / ACTIONS TAKEN

KEY POINTS FOR TIPPING
-Ensure material is evenly loaded in the back of the tipper. Be aware of hazards associated with overnight loading and freezing conditions, where damp material may settle or freeze and be more likely to stick to the trailer.

- When tipping ensure the ground is even and in good condition. Preferably vehicles should be fitted with inclinometers.

-Tractor and trailer units should be in the same plane, i.e. a straight line.

-Ensure the zone around the tipping location is clear of pedestrians and other vehicles when tipping.

- Where possible tip short of the stockpile, not reverse on to it, so that the body is destabilised by an uneven rear axle.

- Open the tailgate and return to the cab prior to raising the body.

- Do not tip in high winds.

-Tip slowly, don't rush.

- Carry out a risk assessment before tipping -IF IN DOUBT DO NOT TIP.
