TITLE
Hydraulic Tipper Door Injury
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
United Kingdom
ACCIDENT / INCIDENT DETAILS
A tipper truck was reversing on site to tip and was being guided by the site banksman who was part of a contractors site staff. The banksman had stopped the truck, and whilst the driver was engaging the PTO for raising the body of the truck, the banksman took it upon himself to push the button to operate the air rams for the split half door.

Due to the retaining rings which hold the doors closed not being released before the air ram button was pressed, this put pressure on the door release handles. When the driver came to release the handles by lifting the rings, the split door opened under pressure and hit him on the side of his upper body near his ribs, causing significant bruising.

The driver of the truck is the only person who should operate the system for releasing the back door - the banksman should not have touched the truck unless directed to by the driver.
