|Solving tough safety issues by greater worker involvement
The South East Region of Tarmac asked a cross-section of people in the business to get involved in reviewing a variety of safety issues at a number of different sites. Involving people who know what’s really going on has delivered significantly better results than the traditional management-led approach. Below are 3 examples of the outcomes
Contractor Inductions - A plant supervisor taking personal responsibility for raising the standard of contractor inductions, making it more user-friendly, and sharing the best practice with his peers.
Collect Customer Safety – innovative methods of communicating with our customers
Supervisor Forums – sharing all the best practice and working together to make it happen
The more involved approach has made the task more sustainable, rewarding and suited to the challenges that exist.
