LEARNING POINTS / ACTIONS TAKEN
Drivers are reminded of these simple checks that will help to prevent this type of incident
- Exit the vehicle backwards
- Ensure that footplates are not warn or damaged
- Ensure the soles of footwear are not covered in mud
- Ensure the area inside the cab around the doorway is clear of any obstructions
- Be aware of any debris or potholes in the ground you are about to exit onto
(Safequarry editor’s note: although not a factor in these incidents, wear to soles of boots have contributed to a number of driver falls. PPE should be subject to routine inspection and replaced when necessary – Drivers should be encouraged to report damage/wear etc)
